Lodge History
Lodge #486 was born in 1987 when the Adobe Walls Council of Pampa merged with the Llano Estacado Council of Amarillo to form the Golden Spread Council. When the councils were merged the Chief Lone Wolf Lodge #341 and the Palo Duro Lodge #486 met together to come up with a new lodge name and totem. The new name: Nischa Achowalogen which is Lenni Lenape for "Two Hard Workers" reflected the rich traditions of the two former lodges. The Beaver was selected as the new lodge totem and appears on most of the lodge issues. Although it is customary to keep the lower number when two lodges merge, the #486 of Palo Duro was chosen for the new lodge number.
Not large in membership, the lodge covers most of the Texas Panhandle and parts of the Oklahoma Panhandle. Many of our members drive 2 1/2 to 3 hours to attend lodge events and meetings. The lodge helps maintain both of our council camps; Camp MK Brown, near Wheeler and Camp Don Harrington, just south of Amarillo.
We have had past section officers form SR2 and SR3A. We also have a current Section SR3 Advisor in our lodge.
We also have the dubious distinction of winning the Man Miles Traveled to attend a Conclave Award on several occasions.
