Ladies Southern Cloth Outfit

Main Top Right

Cloth dress—can use calico, washable satin, or cotton blend. There is a pattern available for this dress.
Leggings—leather or coordinating cloth; worn if wearing low-top moccasins.
There is a women's accessories pattern available that has leggings, knife sheath, and belt accessories.
Moccasins—usually high-tops are worn and leggings are not needed. Patterns and kits are available.
Belt—tack, concho or beaded with accessories attached and with a drag. Accessories are an awl case, strike-a-light bag, and a tobacco pouch bag that are attached toward the back.
Choker and breastplate set—these are matching or coordinating. Breastplate is the Southern style which is worn over the shoulder.
Necklaces—matches choker and breastplate.
Hair pieces—beaded barrettes, one beaded barrette at back to hold one feather, hair ties (beaded, leather, or fur).
Some places you will see a wrap around shawl at the waist—this is usually Comanche style and associated with different societies within the tribe. Sometimes these shawls may have fringe and sometimes not. Tribes from the same area as the Comanche will also wear shawl wraps. You will also see headbands that are crown'like in style; these are only worn by Indian Princesses past and present—do not make a headpiece like this as it is not appropriate for our group. Simple beaded headbands can be used but are not very common any more.
Many of these items are available in kit form but may not coordinate with your colors or design and sometimes do not have all the supplies needed.
Depending upon the type of materials you shooed, this outfit can be inexpensive or very expensive. For example, if you use plastic hairpipes and beads for the breastplate, choker, and necklace; it is cheaper than in you use glass and real bone hairpipe. Plastic is also a lot lighter in weight.
