- Buckskin Dress: deer or elk hides.
- “Fake buckskin”: suede cloth, micro suede cloth, or faux suede (these materials have the feel of buckskin without the high price).
- There is a pattern for the buckskin dress available.
- Beadwork for the Southern Buckskin is done as accents only on the cape and sometimes at the bottom of the skirt.
- Leggings: made of leather with accent beadwork that matches dress.
- There is a women's accessory pattern available that has patterns for leggings, knife sheath, and belt accessories.
- Moccasins: usually low top or Plains style with accent beadwork. Patterns and kits are available.
- Belt: tack, beaded, or Concho belt with belt accessories attached at back. Common accessories are a strike-a-light bag, knife sheath, and awl case.
- Choker and breastplate set-----These are matching. The style most commonly worn with the Southern Buckskin is over the shoulder. Another style that is less common is a waist level around the neck style. The breastplates that you see worn around the neck and go down to the ankle is a Northern style breastplate.
- Necklaces: matches choker and breastplate colors.
- Hair pieces: beaded barrettes, beaded hair ties for fur wraps. Fur wraps can be otter (imitation or real) or rabbit. Beaded crowns are only worn by past and current princesses and are given to them by their societies. The”crown”: style is not acceptable for our group. There is one feather worn at the back of the head as well. It is usually an imitation Eagle feather.
- Flat feather fans: most common is tail feathers (5-7 feathers), but sometimes a wing fan is used. Feathers are usually imitation hand painted Eagle. Goose is O.K. to use. Handles are beaded with fringe. Fluffs are usually matching with the beadwork.
- Shawl: coordinating or matching base color (use polyester blend that is permanent press): design matches rest of outfit's beadwork. Chainette fringe is most commonly used.
- Leather drawstring purse: beaded to match the rest of the outfit.
- Neck scarf: is of coordinating fabric with a slide that is German silver, beaded, etc. This item is usually by tribal style.
- The shawl is draped over the left arm with the purse in the left hand during dancing. The fan is carried in the right hand..
- ***NOTE: Northern style Buckskin has fully beaded yoke (cape), leggings, and moccasins with the breastplate worn around the neck and down to the ankles.
