Achieving the objectives of Scouting can best be accomplished through imaginative adventures in the out of doors. Scouts want this kind of challenge and the outdoor setting in the ideal test for their developing skills. For this reason, the outdoor program is a key method in gaining the objectives of scouting. Having fun in the outdoors is one of the most significant reasons why a boy becomes a scout. If every scout were asked, “Why did you join Scouting” most would answer with some reason directly attributed to the outdoors and camping. The lure of hiking, swimming, camping, field sports and the ability to participate with other boys his age is undaunting. “Where is there a boy to whom the call of the wild and the open road does not appeal?” Lord Baden Powell |
